LiveSuper-G in Val Gardena –
Is Odermatt closing in on Zurbriggen?
The man from Nidwalden is looking for his 40th victory in the World Cup in Val Gardena. The race is now live in the ticker.
12:15 p.m
He has already won the Super-G twice in Val Gardena. But now snow is falling again above, and the wind also plays a role. But Kriechmayr only loses time in the middle section – due to driving errors. Around a second behind, intermediate place 7.
12:13 p.m
A year ago he won the downhill in Val Gardena. But today the South Tyrolean is having a hard time. At the finish, Paris shakes his head slightly – seven tenths behind.
12:11 p.m
Another Canadian is on the way. It’s not a clean ride from Crawford – intermediate place 6.
12:10 p.m
He won the first Super-G of this season, as well as the discipline ranking in the last two years. And Odermatt immediately accelerates at the top. But then he loses time. He also loses time on Ciaslat, a section that should suit him. Four tenths behind, intermediate place 2. Zurbriggen remains the Swiss record winner for at least another day.
12:07 p.m
A drifter costs him a lot of time at the top. Then the Canadian gets back on track. But then he slips on the inside ski – the second failure.
12:05 p.m
Now the first Italian is at work. In the downhill training, he showed strong rides on the Saslong – 1st and 2nd place. Casse takes a lot of risks and he reaches a high pace in the last section. This puts Casse in the lead with a lead of 57 hundredths.
12:03 p.m
In Beaver Creek, the 2020/2021 overall World Cup winner made an impressive return after a long injury break with 10th place in the Super-G. But he liked this technical course much better than the one in Val Gardena. 1.88 seconds behind for Pinturault – he ranks last.
12:01 p.m
Does the Frenchman do it better than his compatriot Sarrazin? Yes. Allegre crosses the finish line, only six hundredths behind the leading duo.
11:59 a.m
Now the first Swiss is on the way. Stefan Rogentin likes such conditions – but does he show that on the slopes? Well, the Bündner is fast at the top, but at the entrance to Ciaslat he rides a little upright for a moment, which costs him time. But he can make gains again at the bottom – and takes the lead at the same time as Alexander.
11:56 a.m
The Frenchman takes a lot of risks right from the first jump. Is that a bad omen? In any case, Sarrazin missed a goal afterwards – the first loss.
11:55 a.m
The second Austrian is on the way. And we realize: the slopes are getting faster. But after a good start, Babinsky loses time at the bottom to Alexander, who is leading really strongly. Seven tenths behind for Babinsky – and intermediate place 2.
11:53 a.m
The first Canadian is on the slopes. He masters the waves at the Ciaslat key point very well and because he is significantly faster at the bottom than Cochran-Siegle, this gives him the clear lead: the Canadian is 81 hundredths ahead.
11:51 a.m
He was only two hundredths shy of his first World Cup victory last year. Hemetsberger is severely handicapped; his knee hurts him so much that he also has problems in everyday life. The Austrian loses around half a second to Cochran-Siegle – intermediate place 2.
11:49 am
The wind also plays a role today. But whether he is responsible for the Norwegian losing so much time at the top is difficult to say. Below, Sejersted makes up half a second. But he remains behind Cochran-Siegle.
11:47 am
The race is on. Ryan Cochran-Siegle gives the snow plow. Of all places, at the double gate in front of the flat section, it drives him away and into the masses of snow. That costs him a lot of speed. We dare to predict: His time of 1:29.61 will still be beaten.
11:45 a.m
Of course, Odermatt is one of the closest favorites. But: Val Gardena is not his favorite destination and he has never been able to win here. A year ago, Odermatt came third in downhill and super-G in Val Gardena.
There was an Austrian double victory in the Super-G, Vincent Kriechmayr won ahead of Daniel Hemetsberger. You have to have both of them on the bill again. And Val Gardena is always good for a surprise – maybe things will turn out completely differently.
11:41 a.m
During the training sessions, the slopes were still icy and compact. But now 20 cm of new snow fell overnight. Of course, the helpers tried everything to remove the masses of snow from the slopes. Nevertheless, the ground has changed. At least the temperatures of minus 8 degrees helped to make the ground a little more compact. But Odermatt told SRF: “If you come next to the line today, you can take off your skis straight away.”
11:38 a.m
From a Swiss perspective, this Super-G definitely has a historical component. Marco Odermatt won his 39th World Cup victory in the giant slalom in Val d’Isère. If he were to succeed on the Saslong today, he would be on a par with Pirmin Zurbriggen, the greatest Swiss skier in history.
11:29 a.m
