Gunter is missing a notable presence on the field during Thursday’s Class 3A Division II championship football game. But it’s not the first time.
Colin Peacock, the Tigers’ standout receiver and defensive back, suffered a knee injury against Holliday in the Region I-3A Division II finals that ended his season abruptly. The senior signed to play his college ball at Baylor the day before the game.
The Tigers survived a scare from Wall in the state semifinals last week without Peacock. They are coping with his absence on the field in the state title game against Woodville, leading 7-0 at halftime.

But the Tigers are accustomed to playing without Peacock, who is rated a 3-star prospect as a safety and ranked the 182nd overall prospect in Texas, according to 247Sports.com.
Gunter won a state title last year without Peacock, who broke his collarbone three times in the span of nine months during his junior year. The Tigers defeated Tidehaven 30-14 to win the 2023 3A DII title.
Peacock appeared in 10 games this season, catching 24 passes for 521 yards and eight TDs. On defense, he had 39 tackles with 11 pass breakups and five interceptions, including two returned for a touchdown.
