At the stand “Do you read Belgian?” of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation (French-speaking Belgium), guest of honor of the 2nd International Children’s and Youth Book Fair has Casablancavisitors can discover a journey to the heart of the literature Belgian interdisciplinary and multicultural.
Shelves are lined with various books, ranging from children’s stories to albums of comicsallowing the public to explore the richness of Belgian literary production. Visitors can browse the latest publications of authors and Belgian illustrators renowned, as well as essential works of the 9th art which testify to the diversity and creativity of the artistic scene.
The space is also a privileged meeting place with Belgian authorss, who share their passion and know-how during signing sessions and interactive workshops. Visitors can interact directly with artists such as Sabine de Greef, Loïc Gaume or Maud Roegiersand dive into the world of these authors and illustrators, while discovering behind the scenes of their work. These moments of exchange allow the public to better understand the originality of each artist and to immerse themselves in the richness of the children’s literature and of Belgian comics. In addition to these moments of exchange and discovery, the stand highlights a exposition unavoidable : “Origins».
This exhibition is a tribute to the fruitful cultural cooperation between the Morocco and the Wallonia-Brusselsa partnership that has given rise to numerous artistic and educational projects over the years.
After its installation in 1999 in Rabatthe Wallonia-Brussels General Delegation supported the development of BD in Morocco, particularly inInstitute of Fine Arts (INBA) of Tetouan. This support allowed the creation of the BD section of the INBA, where Belgian teachers and industry professionals came together to share their expertise. There revue Chouffirst review of Moroccan comicsis one of the fruits of this collaboration. Significant talents have come from this partnership like the young Moroccan Firdaousse Arrami who benefited from two internships in comics at Bruxelles before participating in the Angoulême salon. Firdaousse writes scripts, creates costumes, draws for comics, develops animated film projects, directs the scenography of playshosts workshops and much more.
Several other talents known on the national and international scene have also benefited from this partnership such as Sara Naji et Zaineb Fasiki. These two artists contributed to the “Origines” exhibition with other names like Abdel de Bruxelles, Aniss El Hamouri, Khaled Afif et Inès Balegh. The artistic dialogue, which nourishes exchanges between Belgian and Moroccan artists, continually enriches the Franco-Belgian-Moroccan scene.
