It’s crazy how the dissolution really clarified everything! This second five-year term is definitely like no other. The Attal government hadn’t lasted long, and now Michel Barnier is overthrown by a motion of censure three months after his appointment. François Bayrou finds himself in Matignon, but the crisis never ends, political life enters into something new.

LR and the MoDem, handover?
The right has long looked haughtily on the MoDem. In local communities, the formation of François Bayrou is often the supporting force of the Republicans (LR) in forming majorities. The situation has changed. This is the right-wing potential ally of the new Prime Minister, in search of government positions and substantive guarantees. An LR executive notes this downgrading: “In a sense, it’s almost harder to go with François Bayrou than to go with Emmanuel Macron. He betrayed us, not Macron. The MoDem came to us locally. There, it ‘is the opposite way.’
Edouard Philippe’s friends want to sulk
The silence of Edouard Philippe and his friends after the appointment of François Bayrou to Matignon did not go unnoticed. Within Horizons, some go even further, such as this elected official who gave this advice to the mayor of Le Havre: “If we don’t have anyone in government, it’s not any worse…”

Education: soon a sixth minister…
Only one Minister of Education for the first five-year term (Jean-Michel Blanquer), soon a sixth minister since 2022? François Bayrou, who headed this ministry for four years, between 1993 and 1997, does not intend to reappoint Anne Genetet, who would not be particularly defended at the Elysée. “What I am doing falls through the cracks if the government is overthrown,” she warned before the vote on the motion of censure. In 2023, in The PointEmmanuel Macron had indicated that “education [faisait] part of the reserved domain of the president”…

Dissolution: the revenge of Gabriel Attal
Invited to give a conference before the Friends of Crif, Wednesday December 18, Gabriel Attal strengthened his speech against Emmanuel Macron’s choice to dissolve the National Assembly last June. “I was neither associated nor informed of this decision to dissolve, so I have no reason to have any regrets,” declared the former Prime Minister. “I hope that some will.” His words will not fail to provoke a reaction from those around the President of the Republic who heard him say the following words on the evening of June 9: “I follow you, Mr. President.” Certainly, Gabriel Attal said it in every tone, he was not in favor of dissolution but did he try to change the Elysian line on the day of the announcement? Some close to the Head of State consider it a little easy to distance himself a posteriori from the tenant of Matignon, delighted to be able to establish himself as a martyr for Macronism and thus avoid being splashed by June’s choice.
Jordan Bardella, the big head and Cyril Hanouna
As Christmas approaches, we look, at the National Gathering, at what will remain of the year 2024. One name is on everyone’s lips, of course, that of Jordan Bardella. The president of the party has seen his wings grow over the last twelve months, and the queues which accompany the signing tour of his book bear witness to this. So, among the sailors, we joke. In whispers, we talk about the “big head” that Marine Le Pen’s heir apparent would have taken, and we also worry about his future plans. Jordan Bardella’s entourage, in particular, fuels hallway conversations. “We know how it works, a big head feeds itself, and it could well come from the entire court of courtiers who surround him, from his advisors to the ‘Hanouna team'”, worries a frontist deputy who probably didn’t put his president’s book on his Christmas list.

Marine Tondelier, François Bayrou, the hospital and charity
Leaving her meeting with François Bayrou in Matignon on December 17, the ecologist Marine Tondelier criticized the new Prime Minister’s idea of returning to the non-cumulative mandates. “When we try to do everything, we do everything wrong,” considered the national secretary of EELV who is also regional councilor of Hauts-de-France, community councilor of Hénin-Carvin and also municipal councilor of Hénin-Beaumont .
