Gianluigi Donnarumma will not be available for the next few days for Paris Saint-Germain. The club from the French capital communicated the information on its website Thursday the day after the serious facial injury suffered by the goalkeeper during the match against Monaco.
“Victim of facial trauma with multiple wounds, Gianluigi Donnarumma will return to Paris this evening with the team. He will undergo medical examinations tomorrow and will have to remain inactive for several days,” wrote PSG.
During the Ligue 1 match against the Monegasques (won 2-4 by the Parisians), the Italian goalkeeper was injured in the face after receiving a kick from defender Wilfried Singo during a duel. Donnarumma was treated for several minutes before finally being replaced. He will be absent for several days and could therefore miss the 32nd final of the Coupe de France against Will Still’s RC Lens on Sunday.
After the winter break, the Parisians will return to the pitch on January 5 with the Champions Trophy against Monaco. PSG (40 points) is at the top of Ligue 1 with a lead of ten units over its first pursuer, Olympique de Marseille, who however have one game less. Monaco also has 30 points.
Singo’s apology
AS Monaco defender Wilfried Singo publicly apologized on social media. “I would like to apologize to Gianluigi Donnarumma. My action was obviously not voluntary, but I was able to see later that he had a significant injury to his face”wrote the Monegasque in an Instagram story, before addressing the Italian directly: “I wish you a good recovery”.
Already sanctioned with a yellow card for a previous foul, Singo was not excluded, not receiving a direct red card nor a second yellow synonymous with exclusion. Referee François Letexier ruled that the gesture “was in continuity with the action” according to the words of Parisian captain Marquinhos. Staples had to be placed on the completely open cheek of Gianluigi Donnarumma, victim of “facial trauma with multiple wounds” as announced in the PSG medical update at the end of the meeting.
The Italian will undergo “medical examinations” on Thursday and will have to remain inactive for several days, the club’s press release said.
