A cold front through the holiday weekend might be followed by rain on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

As of Wednesday morning, the National Weather Service in Shreveport said a cold front was moving over Shreveport and Bossier City. The weekend will bring dry conditions, but the rain could be back by Christmas Eve.

Shreveport residents woke up Wednesday to rain and warmer temperatures, though they were expected to later dip into the 50s, according to the NWS Shreveport office. Thursday and Friday are expected to get progressively cooler with highs below 60 degrees.

Starting Friday, drier and colder conditions are predicted throughout the weekend.

Temperatures for Saturday and Sunday will have highs under 60 degrees and lows nearly freezing, which is typical for late December in Louisiana, according to the NWS Shreveport Office.

However, the weather will get a little warmer than normal starting Monday, and there’s a chance of thunderstorms beginning Monday night, according to the NWS Shreveport Office.

While the NWS Shreveport Office said one of their forecasting models shows the rain dissipating by nighttime on Christmas Eve, there’s a strong possibility of rain on Christmas Day. High temperatures on Christmas day will likely approach 70 degrees.

But the risk of severe weather is low, according to the NWS Shreveport Office, and any precipitation is expected to be either showers or thunderstorms.
