Strong gusts are expected in Corsica on Friday December 20. Météo- has placed the departments of Haute-Corse and Corse-du-Sud on orange alert for the day.

Storm warning for Corsica, Friday December 20. During the night from Thursday to Friday, “the west wind” will get up and “winter storm” Dionisio will sweep over the island of beauty with intense “uncommon”. Haute-Corse and Corse-du-Sud will be under orange alert for “strong winds” for the day, Météo-France announces.

Up to 180 km/h on Cap Corse

Gusts of 90/100 km/h are expected “on a large part of the island”and until “120 and 140 km/h in Balagne and on the cretes”. 180 km/h could be reached locally “towards Cape Corse”explains the meteorological service in its bulletin issued on the morning of Thursday, December 19. The episode should fade Friday afternoon from 2 p.m., and disappear in the evening. The Mediterranean departments should feel the effects of this storm from Thursday. The Pyrénées-Orientales, Aude, Hérault, and Alpes-Maritimes are on yellow alert for “wind”. Bouches-du-Rhône will join vigilance on Friday, which should end in Hérault. According to La Chaîne Météo, the Mistral and the Tramontane are expected to blow all night on the Gulf of Lion. Strong winds of up to 100 km/h are expected in Provence from this Thursday afternoon.

The 2024-2025 European winter storm season opened in October for Mediterranean countries. It will last until next September.
