Adelaide weather forecast for Thursday December 19th, the weekend, and Christmas

Adelaide is set to enjoy a sunny stretch of weather with temperatures soaring, beginning on Thursday with a high of 34 degrees and no rain expected. The forecast from the Bureau of Meteorology outlines a series of dry and sunny days ahead with a brief possibility of showers on Sunday.

Thursday will remain dry and sunny, with light to moderate east to northeast winds shifting south to southwest in the afternoon, then turning southeasterly in the evening. Coastal breezes from the southeast to southwest will extend inland as the day progresses, providing some respite from the heat.

The weather will stay sunny on Friday, with a minimum temperature of 18 degrees and a maximum of 31 degrees. Winds will shift from light and variable to a stronger southwesterly direction at 25 to 35 km/h in the morning, eventually tending southerly by the late afternoon. Despite partial dry conditions, there is a slight possibility of a shower or a gusty storm in the far northeast corner of the region.

On Saturday, Adelaide residents can expect mostly sunny skies, with minimum temperatures cooling slightly to 15 degrees and a maximum of 29 degrees. Winds will be south to southeasterly, ranging from 20 to 30 km/h, keeping conditions mostly dry but there remains a chance for a shower or storm in the far northeast.

The weather starts to change slightly by Sunday, with partly cloudy skies forecast. Temperatures will drop, ranging from a minimum of 13 to a maximum of 25 degrees. There is a 30% chance of rain, primarily in the morning and afternoon, which might bring a low 1mm of rainfall. Winds will be predominantly southerly at 15 to 20 km/h but will become stronger and southwesterly, reaching speeds of 25 to 40 km/h throughout the day.

The weather situation is influenced by a high pressure system positioned southeast of the state and a ridge that remains to the south of South Australia. A new high pressure system and the ridge extending from the west will become prominent from Friday onwards, following the movement of the current high pressure system towards the southeast. By Sunday, a weak front will clip the southeast of the state, possibly increasing shower activity in the southern agricultural areas, with rainfall totals ranging from 1-5 mm near the Lower South East.

A strong wind warning is in effect for Friday for Spencer Gulf and Gulf St Vincent.

Meanwhile, a heatwave warning for the North East Pastoral District has been cancelled.

The forecast for Christmas Day has also finally been revealed, with a hot and sunny 35 degrees on the way, with a low of 16.
