MAYOTTE – Humanitarian commitment. Prime Minister François Bayrou announced this Tuesday, December 17 on France 2, as part of the evening of support for Mayotte, that donations to help the island ravaged by Hurricane Chido would be 70% tax exempt. He also announced that he would go there as soon as his government was formed.
“I can announce to you that we have decided that all donations up to 1,000 euros will be tax deductible for 70% of their amount”declared François Bayrou, already under fire from criticism only five days after his appointment. However, this only concerns donations made to the Fondation de France.
And to insist: “Maybe we can go higher, because it’s a catastrophe like we’ve never experienced. » The new tenant of Matignon even said he was in favor of 100% tax exemption for donations. However, he stressed that it was necessary to “look at the law”. “But I think it would be absolutely justified. For a disaster of this order, the tax exemption must go to the highest level and up to 100%. he continued.

As the presenter Nagui recalled, the Coluche law of 1989 authorizes a tax exemption of 66% for donations to organizations of general interest or recognized as being of public utility. This is the case of the Fondation de France. Thus, a donation of 50 euros allows a tax reduction of 33 euros and a donation of 100 euros a reduction of 66 euros.
Donations to organizations that help people in difficulty (free meals, medical care, housing assistance) benefit from a 75% tax reduction, but only if the amount does not exceed 1,000 euros. Beyond that, the reduction drops to 66%.
Furthermore, François Bayrou confirmed that a state of natural disaster would be declared in the archipelago and that he would go there once his government was formed and Emmanuel Macron, expected in Mamoudzou on Thursday, returned to Paris. The Prime Minister drew the wrath of the opposition for attending the municipal council of his city, Pau, on Sunday, rather than remaining in the capital to manage both Mayotte and the constitution of his government.
