The Prime Minister made this announcement while the President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron is expected in the archipelago this Thursday.

François Bayrou announced Tuesday evening on 2 that he would go to Mayotte as soon as “(s)our government is formed”, after Emmanuel Macron who is expected on Thursday on the island devastated by cyclone Chido.

“As soon as the President of the Republic has left (Mayotte), and the government has been formed, I will obviously go to mobilize all of the State’s resources,” replied the Prime Minister, questioned during a special broadcast. François Bayrou had to face numerous criticisms for having chaired the Municipal Council on Monday evening, after participating in a crisis meeting in Mayotte by videoconference.

Criticized from all sides for this choice, François Bayrou promised deputies on Tuesday not to leave any challenge “unanswered”, but without advancing his solutions while waiting to form a government “in a few days”.

The new Prime Minister, who continues consultations with political forces to constitute his team. “I hope that we will succeed in moving quickly” and finalizing the government “in a few days,” said François Bayrou in the middle of the afternoon.
