In his book Step by step in the night (XO éditions), published on November 7, Bambou lifts the veil on her story and her relationship with Serge Gainsbourg. The artist returns in particular to the loss of their first child, stillborn.

This is another face of Caroline Paulus, known as Bambou, that her readers discover in Step by step in the night (XO éditions), published on November 7. The 65-year-old singer opens up like never before about her personal story, long placed in the background compared to her relationship with Serge Gainsbourg. She tells herself through the unpublished story of her difficult childhood in a foster family, her adolescence marked by drug consumption, and also returns to his atypical meeting with the author of La Javanaise and their decade together.

Lulu Gainsbourg’s mother thus reveals that she gave birth to a first child, a stillborn boy because he was very premature, in 1984. A trauma that she still remembers perfectly today. « When I woke up after the operation, the baby was gone. I’ve never seen him. Serge managed everything with the doctors. I really wanted it », writes Caroline Paulus, as reported Le Figaro . The baby will have no first name or place of burial. At the time, Bambou was only 25 years old and Serge Gainsbourg, already Charlotte’s father, was 56.
