- At the Ski Cross World Cup in Arosa, no Swiss-Ski representative made it to the finals.
- Talina Gantenbein is the best Swiss woman in 5th place, Ryan Regez comes in 6th place.
- The race was overshadowed by a serious fall for Saskja Lack.
After two podium finishes at the start in Val Thorens, Swiss-Ski came away empty-handed at the home races in Arosa. Three Swiss women made it to the semi-finals among women. Saskja Lack and Fanny Smith took themselves out of the race. Lack drove onto Smith’s skis, causing her to fall and later losing his balance himself.
While Smith escaped relatively unscathed when she fell, Lack hit the slope hard and had to be transported away on a rescue sled. Talina Gantenbein, the third Swiss woman, also got stuck in the semi-finals. Thanks to the victory in the small final, the 26-year-old secured fifth place. Smith started, but immediately swung off again.
Canada, on the other hand, had a lot to be happy about. Marielle Thompson secured the day’s victory ahead of her compatriots India Sherret and Hannah Schmidt. For Thompson it was the 33rd World Cup victory of her career.
Regez is rehabilitating himself
Switzerland was also “only” represented in the small final among men. Ryan Regez still celebrated his 6th place at the finish. The Olympic champion, who tore his cruciate ligament in Arosa two years ago, has never been ranked better since his return to the World Cup. At the start in Val Thorens he was already stuck in qualifying.
For Alex Fiva it was over in the quarterfinals on the short course in Arosa. Marc Bischofberger, Tobias Baur and Noah Lubasch were already eliminated in the round of 16.
The day’s victory also went to Canada. Reece Howden narrowly beat Simone Deromedis from Italy. David Mobärg (SWE) completed the podium.
This is how it continues
The ski crossers don’t have a long break ahead of them. Qualification for the next World Cup races is scheduled for Thursday in San Candido, Italy. Races 4 and 5 will take place on Friday and Saturday.
