Jean-Luc Mélenchon's second home, located in a village near Montargis, was damaged. Tags were written on the walls.

Jean-Luc Mélenchon learned about it from friends who were watching the news on television. His second home located near Montargis, in , was damaged. The Montargis public prosecutor confirmed this on Tuesday, December 17, by giving some information to the press on the investigation opened and now entrusted to the Bellegarde gendarmerie brigade.

The leader of Insoumise has for some time owned a house in Lombreuil – a small village of 300 inhabitants -, a residence used to regularly go green and in which he has stored personal belongings. “I fear for my books. Thank you to the media for not aggravating my danger,” the former presidential candidate reacted on X on Tuesday.

The politician's home was seriously vandalized: as reported by France Bleu Orléans, the gate to his property was cut down. The police also found an open window, through which the individuals probably entered. The local media reports that “numerous tags” were written on the walls inside the house. These are not neutral inscriptions, but messages directly targeting Jean-Luc Mélenchon, whom the gendarmes described as “insulting” and “outrageous” to France Bleu.

This malicious act was unanimously condemned by left-wing political figures, many of whom see it as a consequence of the deterioration of public debate. Several political opponents of Jean-Luc Mélenchon also reacted to express their indignation. Marine Le Pen notably published this message on her social network cowardice and I provide my support to Mr. Mélenchon who is today a victim of it.”
