the essential
The regional construction federation is sounding the alarm: the sector is experiencing a deep crisis, which political uncertainty is reinforcing. Example in the Gers.

The construction industry is bearing the brunt of the current crisis, whether economic or political. The FFB and the 13 departmental federations organized a meeting last Thursday to call for the responsibility of the new government and elected officials to restore confidence.

Among the representatives of the construction industry, Nathalie Lacroix, president of the FFB Gers, who describes a situation as bad in the department as in the rest of the region…

“We are facing a general decline in the number of new homes built in Occitanie, but in Gers, housing is falling by almost 24% between this year and 2023. And for professional premises, it is not good either: the drop is 5%. » The president of the Gers federation shares the FFB's proposals to put an end to a crisis which threatens economic and social cohesion in Occitania.

4-point request

“We have immediate requests, in 4 points. The former government granted us the reestablishment of the PTZ, the rate at 0%. It is crucial to boost homeownership among young households. It needs to be put back in place. »

Another gain obtained from the brief Barnier government, the exemption on direct line donations – i.e. children and grandchildren – for investment in new properties. “It went up to €100,000 for the acquisition of a main residence. Everything fell through,” laments Nathalie Lacroix

The FFB Occitanie, to replace the Pinel Law, is calling for the establishment of a private rental investment system. This would allow depreciation of the building over 50 years, at an annual rate of 2%, in both new and existing buildings, for all private rental housing. Finally, the construction of social housing, currently at half mast, must be relaunched. “We can clearly see that the difficulties are present for us. Companies that produce individual homes are turning to the renovation market to diversify. » Which creates new competition with craft companies… Competition more limited than it seems, unfortunately: business failures in the construction sector increased by 45% over the year in course. “This leaves many employees unemployed…”

The construction industry is now waiting for political stability. “We hope that a government will be put in place quickly, and above all that it will last! There, we will have to resume all the negotiations…”
