At their worst moment, Inter broke the deadlock with Calhanoglu’s penaltywho returned to score from 11 meters after his spot-kick error (his first since being in Italy) against Napoli on 10 November.
But before the Nerazzurri took the lead, everything happened. We are at 36′ and the Nerazzurri break the deadlock: corner from Calhanoglu, header from Dumfries, great save by Provedel and tap-in by de Vrij, but referee Chiffi cancels it for offside. From the images you can see what it is Lautaro Martinez to be in an irregular position: the Argentine participates in the action by involuntarily hitting the flight of Gigot, who had recently come on for Gila (who went out after some dizziness). However, while the Biancoceleste defender is being treated, the VAR check continues.
The reason? There is a handball from Gigot himself on the gore of Dumfries, which arrives just before the irregular position of the Inter captain. Just over two minutes pass then Chiffi goes to the monitor and awards the penalty to Simone Inzaghi’s team. Marco Baroni is very angry on the bench, while the fourth official tries to explain to him what happened. The Lazio players surround the referee, who shows a yellow card to Rovella. Calhanoglu appears from 11 meters and breaks the deadlock. Lazio did not return to the match and a few minutes later went down again: cross from Dumfries and third goal of the season from Dimarco.
