The Government of the Canary Islands has announced today in the Government Council the conclusions of the meeting of the technical evaluation committee that contemplate that throughout this afternoon it is planned to end the maximum wind alert situation on the islands of El Hierro, La Gomera and in the north and west of Tenerife.
However, the pre-alert situation remains due to the moderate southeast wind, with locally strong intervals in Lanzarote and Fuerteventura and probable very strong gusts that will reach and exceed 60 – 80 km/h in the midlands, in the high areas, and on the northern and western slopes of the islands.
The Minister of Territorial Policy, Territorial Cohesion and Water, Manuel Miranda, also announced that the arrival of an episode of haze is expected that will mainly affect the southern slopes of the islands starting at midnight in variable amounts, at times dense. and superficial and that will probably reduce visibility to less than 3000 m and could generate and/or aggravate health problems for people with chronic and/or respiratory diseases.
In relation to the state of the sea, it is also planned to end the alert situation for coastal phenomena in the archipelago, which will remain in a pre-alert situation starting this afternoon with a forecast of wind from the southeast and east component, force 5 with intervals of force 6 ; predominance of swell with local areas of strong swell and swell of southern and western component of 1 to 2 meters, with combined sea waves of 1 to 2.5 meters and spring tides.
In addition, the pre-alert situation due to the risk of forest fires in Gran Canaria and the western islands is maintained.
Incidents recorded in 112 during maximum alert
During the meteorological phenomenon, 112 Canarias has increased its activity by 20% and has managed some 530 incidents related mainly to the wind, mostly in Tenerife and El Hierro.
The maximum gusts yesterday Sunday were recorded in Arure, in La Gomera with 139 km/h and Frontera, in El Hierro, with 132 km/h. Today, Monday, Arure recorded gusts of 129 km/h, Agulo of 128 km/h and El Hierro gusts of 117 km/h in the Pico Malpaso area.
The typology of these incidents has consisted of technical assistance associated with requirements for obstacles on public roads or urban furniture at risk of falling onto public roads, which includes falling branches, palm trees or trees, traffic signs, Christmas lighting, fences or telephone poles.
