Cruz Azul and Pumas paid little attention to Club America’s 16th title, which was secured after their victory over Monterrey in the final of the 2024 Apertura tournament in Mexican football.
The three teams, regarded as “big” players in national football, seemed more focused on the upcoming match schedules for the 2025 Clausura tournament, which is set to kick off in January.
Similarly, Toluca, who fell to America in the quarter-finals, did not extend any congratulations. Toluca ranks third in the history of Liga MX championships, boasting a total of 10 titles.
On the other hand, Tigres acknowledged the efforts of André Jardine’s squad in the recently concluded tournament, posting: “Congratulations @ClubAmerica on winning the Apertura 2024 title” on their X account.
The Monterrey team, which lost the final, also sent their best wishes to the capital club, stating: “Congratulations to @ClubAmerica for winning the #Apertura2024 tournament championship.”
Other teams that celebrated America’s achievement included Atlético de San Luis, Atlas, Necaxa, Mazatlán, Puebla, Pachuca, Querétaro, and Santos Laguna. The teams that remained silent on social media were Xolos de Tijuana, León, and Bravos de Juárez.

The Liga MX also congratulated the American squad, who became the first tri-champion in the history of short tournaments.
“EL AMÉÉÉÉRICAAAAAA! Las Águilas, los Azulcremas… The @ClubAmerica is TRICAMPEÓN of Liga BBVA MX! Shout it out, Americanistas! The 16th title has arrived!” they exclaimed on X.
Furthermore, they mentioned that Richard Sánchez was named the player of the match in the second leg held last Sunday.
