- The tournament will take place from July 2nd to 27th in 8 different Swiss cities.
The Swiss women’s national team can count themselves lucky after the draw for the home European Championship in summer 2025 in Lausanne. The lottery fairies, including Lara Dickenmann and Xherdan Shaqiri, made for an attractive but not impossible Swiss group.
All teams from the north are waiting for Switzerland. Iceland (world number 14) was drawn from Pot 1 to Switzerland (23), followed by Norway (16) and Finland (26). There could have been tougher things for the national team.
Lots of attractive games
Overall, there are already some attractive encounters in the group phase. Spain, Portugal, Belgium and Italy meet in Group B. The games Germany – Sweden (Group C) and France – England (Group D) are also impressive.
It starts in July
The tournament begins on July 2nd with the opening game between Switzerland and Norway in Basel. On the same day, Iceland and Finland will also play their first game in Thun. The Swiss will play the remaining games on July 6th in Bern against Iceland and on July 10th in Geneva against the Finns.
The best two teams in each of the four groups qualify for the quarterfinals. The European Championship final will take place on Sunday, July 27th at 6:00 p.m. in Basel.
Record prize money and new ball
The prize money was also announced as part of the draw; it will be 41 million euros. This is a novelty: for the first time, 30 to 40 percent of the income of the 16 participating national associations must be guaranteed to go to the players. A minimum prize money of 1.8 million euros is set for each participating association. The clubs of the released players will also be compensated more than before, with a total of 6 million euros.
The game ball was also presented. His name is “Konektis” and he will be in action for the first time in the opening game.
