After their remarkable brilliance in the skies of world alongside the national teams and with their clubs, the Moroccan stars nominated for the CAF 2024 awards are seeking to have their names written in golden ink in the record of African football.

Carrying the Moroccan nominees at the 2024 Confederation of African Football (CAF) Awards Ceremony, which Marrakesh will host today, Monday, is the star Achraf Hakimi, the right-back of the Atlas Lions and the Saint-Germain team, who marked an exceptional season.

Hakimi had won the bronze medal in the 2024 Paris Olympics with the Moroccan Olympic team, in a historic achievement for Moroccan football. He also excelled remarkably with the first team in the qualifiers for the 2025 Africa Cup of Morocco, and was crowned with the Paris Saint-Germain team in the local league and the French Cup.

Hakimi, who previously played for Spanish Real Madrid, German Borussia Dortmund, and Italian Inter Milan, is competing for the Best African Player award alongside Ivorian Simon Adingra, English Brighton player, Guinean Ciro Geraci, Borussia Dortmund German striker, Nigerian Ademola Lookman, Italian top scorer Atalanta, and Ronwen Ronwen. Williams, goalkeeper of Mamelodi Sundowns and the South African national team.

Among women, Moroccan players have a strong presence in the nominations list for the CAF Awards for the year 2024, as the Royal Army and national team player, Sanaa Mesoudi, competes for the best player award, along with Nigerian Chiamaka Nadozi and Zambian Barbara Banda.

Mesoudi won the Best Player Award in the Women’s African Champions League for the year 2024, where she excelled with her outstanding performance and played a major role in the Royal Army team reaching the final match.

Mesoudi was also nominated for the title of best club player of the year, alongside her colleague in the Royal Army and the national team, Doha Al-Madani, who stole the spotlight as the best striker by scoring 6 goals in the same African competition.

Khadija Al-Rumaishi is competing for the Best Goalkeeper Award, while Doha Al-Madani is nominated for the Best Young Player Award.

Regarding the title of Coach of the Year, Royal Army coach Mohamed Amin Alioua is on the list of candidates for the title, along with the Moroccan coach of the Congolese club TP Mazembe, Lamia Boumhdi, who won the 2024 African Women’s Champions League title.

The women’s national football team is competing for the best team of the year award, along with the Nigerian and South African teams.

For its part, the Royal Army Club, which ranked second in the 2024 African Champions League for Women, is competing for the Club of the Year award in the CAF competitions.

The CAF Awards ceremony, which highlights the excellence of African football, aims to recognize exceptional performance in the field of football, whether at the club level or national and continental competitions, with the Golden Ball being awarded to the best male and female player in Africa.

The CAF 2024 awards cover the period from January 2024 to October 2024.
