The elected representatives of the departmental council of Mayotte met for the first time this Monday since the passage of Cyclone Chido in Mayotte. They spoke of the difficulties in restoring water in Petite-Terre and between Bandrélé and Sada. For electricity, it will take a month to a month and a half to restore the low-voltage lines, those which supply homes.
Elected officials from the Mayotte department took stock of the state of infrastructure, which was heavily damaged by the passage of Cyclone Chido on the island. According to departmental advisors, 50% of the telephone network should be restored by the end of the week. Because of these difficulties, many Mahorais are still unable to contact their loved ones and worry about them.
Water is gradually returning to homes, but elected officials have cited complications in restoring distribution in Petite-Terre and in the South, particularly between Bandrélé and Sada. Concerning electricity, strategic sites were able to be supplied and high voltage lines were restored, these are those which supply industrial sites. The low-voltage lines, which supply homes, are however heavily damaged. According to department officials, it will take a month to a month and a half to restore the entire network.
