Responding to accusations of destabilization issued by the Algerian authorities, the French Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jean-Noël Barrot, described these new fabrications as “unfounded and fanciful”.
Mr. Barrot, nevertheless, affirmed that his country wishes the continuation of bilateral relations, recalling that the two heads of state agreed on a road map “which projects the relationship between our two countries into the future” and preserves their respective interests.

The statement by the head of diplomacy comes in the wake of the summons of the French ambassador to Algeria, in protest against actions attributed to France and aimed at destabilizing the country.
The summons follows the broadcast last week of a documentary on the national television channel and the continuous news channel AL24. This documentary claims that Algerian intelligence services “foiled a plot” led by French intelligence services to destabilize Algeria.

Relations between the two countries have seriously deteriorated since the arrest in Algiers of Boualem Sansal, a Franco-Algerian writer critical of the military regime.
