The mayor of Penne-sur-Huveaune, Nicolas Bazzucchi, was arrested at his home by the police and placed in police custody early this Monday morning on suspicion of aggravated violence and spousal rape.
It was around 6:10 a.m. this Monday morning when police officers knocked on the door of the home of the mayor of Penne-sur-Huveaune, Boulevard Voltaire, as confirmed by a witness to the arrest. He was then taken to the town hall of this town adjoining Marseille, from which he left handcuffed at 7 a.m.
According to our information, confirmed by the Marseille prosecutor's office, the 29-year-old elected official was placed in police custody. He is the subject of suspicion of aggravated violence and rape of a spouse. Searches were carried out at his home as well as in the town hall buildings by investigators from the territorial crime division (DCT), who took the elected official to the Evêché police headquarters where he is heard while in police custody.
The mayor, without a label, was elected with the support of the right following a partial municipal election in March 2022. Nicolas Bazzucchi thus succeeded Christine Capdeville (PCF) at the head of this town of 6,500 inhabitants, putting an end to almost half a century of communist majority in Penne-sur-Huveaune.
