The players at the 2025 PDC World Darts Championship can earn some considerable money at the Alexandra Palace this year. The 96 strong field will divide as much as £2.5 milliom amongst them. That amount is almost forty times higher than at the very first edition of the PDC World Championship back in 1994. Back then, the prize pot consisted of £64,000.
Since then, the prize money on offer in darts has steadily increased. In 1999, more than a £100,000 of prize money was distributed at the World Darts Championship for the first time. During the 2010 edition, the barrier of one million pounds of prize money was reached and since the 2019 World Darts Championship, the total prize pot now contains £2.5 million of prize money.
The 64 participants to start in the first round of the World Darts Championship will receive £7,500 in prize money guaranteed. The top-32 of the seedings list are guaranteed £15,000. These players will enter the World Darts Championship from the second round.
Whoever is through to the third round will receive £25,000 in prize money guaranteed. After the Christmas break, the prize money goes up considerably. A place in the last sixteen already earns £35,000 and for the quarter-finalists there is £50,000 waiting.
For the semifinalists, the prize money won enters the six figures. The players in the final four can add £100,000 to the world rankings. In the final, as much as £700,000 in prize money will be distributed. The runner-up receives a cheque for £200,000, while the world champion goes home with an eye-watering £500,000 in prize money.
The prize money won counts toward the PDC Order of Merit. This ranking is considered the world ranking at the PDC. The ranking is based on players’ performances over a 104-week period. Winning the world title is usually good for a solid position in the top four of the world rankings.
