Ahead of the match, however, there were violent scenes in the city centre.

Footage shared to social media showed supporters clashing with each other and the police prior to kick-off.

A video of the incident showed a crowd of fans running down the street before a flare was thrown.

Police officers could also be seen breaking up the trouble as rival supporters fought on the floor.

Several members of the public watched on as batons were used by the police in the video.

Shoppers could also be seen sheltering in a shop as fans ran past whilst the disorder was going on.

The two sides meet at Hampden Park in the Scottish League Cup final on Sunday afternoon.

Kick-off in Glasgow was at 3:30pm, with the winner lifting the first trophy of the season.

Celtic won their previous Old Firm 3-0 at Celtic Park back in September.

Brendan Rodgers’ side are also currently nine points clear at the top of the Premiership.

Meanwhile, Rangers are 11 points back in third, one place behind Aberdeen with a game in hand.

Alistair Johnston has recovered from a knock picked up in the Champions League against Dinamo Zagreb to start for Celtic.

However, Luke McCowan is cup tied after featuring for Dundee earlier in the campaign.

As for Rangers, John Souttar is not fit enough to make the matchday squad having been forced off against Tottenham on Thursday.

Ianis Hagi does return, though, after being ineligible to be involved in midweek.
