Manchester United midfielder Mason Mount suffered an injury early in the Manchester derby.
Mason Mount came off the bench against Plzen and played a key role in the team’s comeback.
It led to calls for Mount to be selected to start the Manchester derby at The Etihad, and Ruben Amorim agreed.
Mount was named as a starter – with Alejandro Garnacho and Marcus Rashford dropped from the squad entirely.
Mason Mount injured
Mason Mount lasted only 12 minutes in the Manchester derby, collapsing to the ground with an apparent muscle injury.
He was substituted off, with Kobbie Mainoo coming on as his replacement, with the score 0-0 at the time.
This is the latest injury blow for Mason Mount, his career at the club has been plagued by problems.
His recent start away at Arsenal was Mount’s first Premier League start since the loss at Brighton in August.
Now it looks like Mount could be set to end 2024 in the way it started, back in the treatment room.
Gary Neville verdict
Former United defender Gary Neville provided an instant reaction to Mount’s latest injury, speaking to Sky Sports.
He pointed out that he could already see the signs of mental anguish on the midfielder’s face, before he was escorted off the pitch.
Neville said: “He’s got that resigned look on his face as someone who has been in the gym rehabilitating long enough.”
He added: “There was a stage in my career I kept getting reoccurring injuries, and it’s demoralising. You feel like letting everybody down.”
But he noted that while this came late in his career, Mason Mount is only 25-years-old, with his succession of injuries a real concern.
