Eli Iserbyt had to abandon the fight in the third round in Namur. He felt for the left buttock. “He had a lot of problems with his buttock, it was nerve pain,” explained his team boss Jürgen Mettepenningen.
Very annoying, because that problem followed him for a while last season after the European Championships in Namur. Last summer, Iserbyt underwent very intensive treatment in the hope that the sciatica (radiating nerve pain) would not return. In vain.
“It is an annoying injury,” said Mettepenningen. “It was good for a while, but now he has problems again. It’s the same injury as last year. A muscle puts pressure on a nerve and that causes a lot of pain. As long as he can cycle, it’s not too bad, but once he starts walking, it becomes too much.”
There is no miracle solution. “It now needs to be treated at the physiotherapist and then we hope for an improvement. Hopefully time will turn,” said Mettepenningen.
