Niels Vandeputte will not appear at the start of the Namur World Cup this afternoon. The Alpecin-Deceuninck rider does not feel fit and does not want to take any risks in view of the busy Christmas period.
The 24-year-old Belgian took part in the X2O cross of Herentals on Saturday and even finished fourth. “But Niels didn’t feel well yesterday after the match in Herentals. After consultation with the medical staff, it was decided that he will not participate in Namur,” Alpecin-Deceuninck said via social media.
Vandeputte was no longer really eligible for the final victory in the World Cup, after skipping the World Cup round in Dublin, Ireland. In the first Cross World Cup of the season, in Antwerp, he crossed the line in fifth place.
Cameron Mason
Vandeputte is not the only rider who has to adjust at the last minute for the climbing cross in Namur, because Cameron Mason is also not there today. The British champion already left the match in Herentals yesterday. What now turns out: Mason is suffering from a virus. “I now need some time to recover. I hope to be back next weekend,” he says on X.
