SPAIN – Aged 71, he was one of the richest people in Spain. Isak Andic, the founder of the Mango clothing brand, died in 1984 “in an accident that occurred on Saturday” not far from Barcelona, announced the group, one of the largest in Europe in the clothing sector.

“It is with deep regret that we announce the sudden death of Isak Andic, our non-executive chairman of the board and the founder of Mango, in an accident on Saturday”declared Toni Ruiz, the general director of this company, in a press release released this Saturday, December 14.

According to The CountryCatalonia's richest man died after falling into a ravine near a trail near the Salnitre Caves, part of the Montserrat massif. A mountain enthusiast

According to the initial report from the Catalan police, one of the businessman's three sons was at the scene of the accident, says The Country.

Isak Andic was passionate about mountains and hiking, and was spending a leisure day with part of his family. The Salnitre caves were once saltpeter mines; their organic forms inspired Antoni Gaudi to design the Sagrada Familia, Barcelona's famous unfinished cathedral.

The beginnings of Mango date back to 1984, when Isak Andic opened his first store with the help of his older brother Nahman on Paseo de Gracia, Barcelona's famous shopping street, which was a huge success.

Spain had just emerged from a decades-long dictatorship that ended with the death of General Francisco Franco in 1975, and consumers were hungry for more modern clothing. Mango has become one of the leading international fashion groups, with nearly 2,800 stores worldwide and 15,500 employees, according to its website.
