The red alert issued at 10 p.m. this Friday or the arrival of Cyclone Chido will not have prevented the acts of violence in Mayotte. The firefighters were particularly stoned at Tsoundzou 1, a minibus was, for example, targeted by a harpoon shot. In Labattoir, several huts caught fire.

The hours following the triggering of the red alert in Mayotte in anticipation of the arrival of Cyclone Chido were not calm everywhere. In Tsoundzou 1, clashes between the police and young people broke out. Around 11 p.m., a convoy of fire vehicles was stoned in its path, according to SNSPP-PATS, the firefighters' union.

A nine-seater minibus was notably hit by a harpoon shot“, announces Ahmed Allaoui, the president of the Mahor branch of the union. In a video posted on the Facebook page, we see a twisted iron rod protruding from the door of the vehicle, whose windshield is cracked by several impacts. “It is difficult to understand that the Sdis uses all means and in the end, they hinder the work of the emergency services“, adds the trade unionist who evokes acts”unacceptable and intolerable.” He announced that the firefighters concerned would file a complaint.

According to him, this is far from being the only incident to have occurred in the territory: trash cans were also set on fire in Vahibé as were tires in front of one of the emergency accommodation centers in Longoni. In Combani, clashes also broke out with the police and a barricade was set on fire.

Codis, the firefighters' operational center, also indicates that several boxes are currently on fire in Labattoir, in the Mouzdalifa district, but that no residents have been reported inside. The fire apparently started from a courtyard before spreading to nearby huts. According to testimonies from local residents, several young people were nearby, one of them was arrested by the police.
