On Wednesday 11 December Mayor Roberto Gualtieri visited via Ottaviano, recently restored after an intervention started on 4 March and lasted almost 10 months. The main objective of the works, carried out in view of the Jubilee, was to restore breadth to the historic commercial artery.
The restoration included the complete renewal of the cobblestone pavement, with the elimination of the central difference in height and the creation of a single carriageway. The road, now largely pedestrianised, features wider pavements, new trees, plants, flowers and marble seats.
Via Ottaviano was symbolically returned to the citizens through a walk by Mayor Gualtieri, accompanied by the Environment Councilor Sabrina Alfonsi.
“Via Ottaviano – said the Mayor Roberto Gualtieri – it has become a boulevard, a living room, a linear square. We give back to the route a role and an importance that it was unable to have before. We are happy that the opinion of the traders and residents is very positive: we are comforted that everyone agreed that the sacrifices of these months of construction were not in vain, and there is a result that justifies the temporary inconvenience of the construction site. This intervention is the model of the philosophy of our choice, of having the courage to make transformations. There are some small details that will be added further, such as the bicycle racks, but the quality of the intervention can already be seen. If necessary, we will make further adjustments”.
