Paul Mescal has reportedly been cast in the latest Beatles biopic – but fans aren’t convinced that he is the right choice for the role.
Paul, 28, recently starred in Ridley Scott’s Gladiator 2 and stunned fans with his hunky transformation into a hulking warrior.
But now it’s been revealed that the star is set for another transformation as it has been revealed that he is set to turn into an iconic Liverpudlian singer.
In a conversation with Christopher Nolan on Tuesday at the Directors Guild of America, Ridley Scott commented: ‘Paul is actually stacked up, doing the Beatles next.’
Variety later confirmed with production that the actor is indeed attached to the Beatles production, although not yet officially signed up.
It has been rumoured that the actor is set to play Sir Paul McCartney, one of the two remaining living Beatles.
While some are delighted that the actor has been cast as the icon in this role, many have pointed to an actor they’d rather see play Paul on the silver screen.
‘I love Paul, but I think Diego Luna is a better choice,’ said h0ney_and_m1lk on X.
‘Diego Luna would have been a better choice…’ said nataliaor17.
‘Diego Luna was right there…’ commented 24mafer.
Diego Luna is a 44-year-old Mexican actor best known for his work playing Cassian Andor in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and the Disney+ series Andor.
The actor has also starred in a variety of American and Mexican films including Frida, Open Range, Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights, and The Terminal.
Although the actor looks undeniably similar to Paul McCartney, it’s likely that the filmmakers are looking for younger cast members and focusing on the early life of the Beatles.
There are several other actors who are rumoured to be attached to this project and set to play a member of the Beatles.
It has been reported that Barry Keoghan, Harris Dickinson and Charlie Rowe have been cast as fellow members of the band.
The multi-movie project marks the first time Apple Corps Ltd. and the Beatles – Sir Paul McCartney, Sir Ringo Starr, and the families of John Lennon and George Harrison – have granted full life story and music rights for a scripted film.
But this isn’t the first time that moviemakers have been inspired by the lives of The Beatles for their films.
Midas Man, Nowhere Boy, and Yesterday are all films inspired by The Beatles, but don’t claim to be entirely accurate portrayals.
