Tavernier: No Assumptions, Just Hard Work

James Tavernier has shared his perspective on the importance of maintaining a competitive mindset, emphasizing that he never takes for granted his place in the starting lineup despite being the captain of Rangers.

As the stalwart right-back at Ibrox, Tavernier has found himself in a rotation with Dujon Sterling under the guidance of manager Philippe Clement this season. Ahead of the highly anticipated Europa League clash against Tottenham Hotspur, the 33-year-old stated, “As a footballer, you can never expect to start your game.”

“Getting too comfortable is something you want to avoid. It’s vital to keep pushing yourself. Every week, I keep my expectations in check; I strive to enhance my game irrespective of my starting status. Whether I’m on the pitch or not, my focus remains on delivering my best for the team.”

When questioned about adapting his mindset due to the changing dynamics of his starting position, Tavernier responded, “No, it’s about continuing to work hard each day, and that’s exactly what I do.”
