Ohio State will wear scarlet alternate uniforms against Tennessee in the first round of the College Football Playoff on Dec. 21, a school spokesperson confirmed.
The uniform includes scarlet jerseys and pants with the Buckeyes’ traditional gray helmet, matching the aesthetic from a win over Penn State in 2021. Many players also wore scarlet shoes and socks against the Nittany Lions three years ago.
The Buckeyes have donned alternate uniforms during previous playoff appearances, though they have often been throwbacks.

When they met Georgia in a semifinal two years ago, they wore away uniforms with thick gray sleeve stripes that had been their predominant look before the mid-2000s. The thicker stripes were part of their uniforms in previous playoff appearances as well.
The scarlet-heavy alternates are part of a “scarlet out” the school is planning for its first home playoff game, part of the field’s expansion to 12 teams that includes first-round games on campuses. Ohio State has encouraged attending fans to wear scarlet to Ohio Stadium next week.
When does Ohio State play Tennessee in CFP
Kickoff for the first-round game between the Buckeyes and Volunteers is scheduled for 8 p.m. on Dec. 21. It will air on ABC/ESPN.

In the other first-round games, No. 7 Notre Dame hosts No. 10 Indiana at 8 p.m. on Dec. 20. No. 6 Penn State-No. 11 SMU is at noon on Dec. 21, followed by No. 5 Texas-No. 12 Clemson at 4 p.m.
