The weather forecasts for the end-of-year holidays are becoming clearer in France. Here are the details for the next few days.
The beginning of December was marked by the return of the cold, but a mild spell is already predicted for the middle of next week, with 2 to 3 degrees above seasonal averages for three days. While winter will officially begin on December 21, the holidays will be prepared relatively gently.
The weather is often variable during this period, between years where the magic is enhanced by snow and others where temperatures are high for the season. It is therefore better to know what to expect when packing your suitcase and to have an idea of the road conditions.
The first trends are already emerging according to The Weather Channel. Fairly calm weather is forecast for the Christmas period. Temperatures are expected to be more seasonal, with a little cool air in the north. There would therefore be no Christmas on the balcony, as was the case in 2022.
Christmas will not be white this year either, even if this pattern cannot be completely excluded, particularly in Lorraine and Alsace. In France, the chance to experience Christmas under the snow is less and less frequent, especially since 2010, the date of the last snowy New Year's Eve. The probability of having a white Christmas in the plains is now 1 to 5% on average and 10 to 20% in the mountains and the east.
“The end of December could be mild and relatively lacking in precipitation. Fog or mists would be numerous during the morning in the north, with dissipation sometimes difficult during the day. In the south, the days would be quite beautiful with the return of mildness, which will melt the snow in the mountains at low and medium altitude”, indicates The Weather Channel in its trends at 4 weeks.
Quite similar forecasts are announced by Météo-France for in fifteen days. Temperatures are expected to be between 3 and 10 degrees in the north and between 4 and 16 degrees in the south. Precipitation would be possible on December 24 in the east and north of France, followed by slightly drier weather the next day. Bad news for a large third of the territory therefore, New Year's Eve should be rainy and humid… Not very festive!
What will it be like for New Year's week? The month could end gently with temperatures above seasonal norms. The weather would also be dry. The reliability of the forecasts still remains very limited at this time frame.
