The village of Thiberville (Eure) received a legacy of ten million euros at the end of the year from a deceased man named Roger Thiberville, reports France Bleu Normandie confirming information from The Norman Awakening. However, the benefactor never set foot in Thiberville: “It was because his name was Roger Thiberville that he wanted to bequeath his fortune to the town of Thiberville,” explains the mayor, Guy Paris.
“A very great astonishment and also a very great joy”comments the elected official. Part of it was bequeathed to his accountant and the rest to the village of Eure. “He is a person who lived very humbly in Paris and who also owned four apartments in the 15th arrondissement”says Guy Paris.
The memory of Roger Thiberville will be honored in the municipal cemetery by placing his ashes there with a stele in his name, in accordance with the wishes of the deceased, who died on August 23, 2024. The legacy represents five times Thiberville's annual budget. To best manage this sum, a meeting took place with the sub-prefect of Bernay and the director of public finances of Eure.
Guy Paris does not yet know how he will use this money. “We have projects: the public garden with a playground, the bowling alley with photovoltaic panels which will serve as shade, the energy renovation of the elementary school, a France Services space and a synthetic football field which is in the boxes”, he listed.
