Widespread outage on Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp: the Meta group apologizes for “the inconvenience caused”

For almost an hour, the Meta group’s platforms, including Facebook and Instagram, have been inaccessible. The outage appears to be global and also affects WhatsApp and Messenger.

This Wednesday evening, the social networks of Meta, the American giant founded by Mark Zuckerberg, are out of service. This widespread outage, observed since around 6:30 p.m., is not limited to Belgium, but seems to have a global reach.

According to DownDetector, a site specializing in tracking online service interruptions, reports number in the thousands. Users are reporting problems on Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and to a lesser extent, WhatsApp.

Users react to X

Faced with this interruption, many users are turning to X (formerly Twitter) to share humorous messages and “memes” about the situation. “It’s as if everyone had taken refuge in the same place to complain”jokes an Internet user.

We are aware that a technical problem is preventing access to our applications for some users. We are working to get everything back to normal as quickly as possible and we apologize for the inconvenience caused.“, wrote Meta on the X network.

Among the services affected, WhatsApp is relatively less impacted, with use still possible for some users. Despite everything, the outage is a source of frustration for social media fans, now cut off from their favorite platforms.

Meta has yet to provide details on what caused this outage, leaving its millions of users waiting for a quick resolution.
