VIDEO – Syrians looted the country's president's house following the rebel takeover of Damascus.

Dozens of Syrians filmed themselves looting President Bashar al-Assad's house, located in an upscale neighborhood of Damascus. Men, women and children roamed the six-story building, where documents were scattered on the stairs, an AFP journalist reported. A painting of Assad lay on the ground at the entrance to the ground floor, surrounded by a vast garden, he added. The Syrian president fled the Syrian capital from the international airport this Sunday, December 8, while the rebels took possession of Damascus.

Images of’Associated Press showed the deserted presidential palace with armed men inside. We see people leaving with objects taken from the palace. A reception room was completely burned down. Meanwhile, crowds gathered to celebrate the fall of Bashar al-Assad's government with chants, prayers and gunfire.

Eight key countries met with the UN special envoy for Syria on the sidelines of the Doha summit for two hours of talks this Saturday evening, with more to follow. The UN special envoy has called for urgent discussions in Geneva to ensure a “orderly political transition”.
