In The Hague, a three-story residential building partially collapsed after an explosion. Emergency services searched the rubble for possible dead and survivors in the Dutch city on Saturday morning, the fire department announced. Four injured people were taken to hospitals.
It was initially unclear how many possible missing people there were. According to their own statements, the fire department continued to fight the flames in the morning. It was also unclear what caused the fire and explosion in the building near the city center. According to the local news platform “Regio15”, apartments on several floors were destroyed by the explosion.
A reporter from the AFP news agency who arrived on site reported huge clouds of smoke rising into the sky. Dozens of fire department vehicles are on site and debris is scattered across the street.
Authorities asked residents in the area to keep doors and windows closed. “The fire is producing a lot of smoke in the immediate neighborhood,” they warned.
