Almost all public service unions (CGT, CFDT, Unsa, FSU, Solidaires, CFE-CGC and FA-FP) are calling for a national day of “action” and “strike” to block 1, 2 billion euros in savings planned in the administration by the government for the 2025 budget, while a motion of censure threatens the government of Michel Barnier. Several dozen gatherings are planned in France, particularly in Paris.
In primary schools, two thirds of staff on strike
The movement should be particularly followed by primary school teachers. In elementary school, 65% of strikers are announced by the FSU-SNUipp, the majority union in the profession. He further assures that teachers could continue the mobilization “in the weeks and months to come” in the absence of political reaction. Locally, the mobilization figures could soar: up to “78% of strikers and more than 300 schools closed” are expected in Seine-Saint-Denis.
“The violent attack on the measures of the Minister of the Civil Service, Guillaume Kasbarian” and the announcement of job cuts are denounced by a press release from the union, which considers that teachers feel “despised” by the executive which does not take “not the measure of the land”. According to the same source, working conditions are “degraded”.
No canteen in Strasbourg, Metz or Caen
After-school services (canteens and daycares) are also affected by social protest. As a result, many collective catering services in schools will not be provided. This will be particularly the case in Strasbourg (Bas-Rhin), Metz (Moselle) and Caen (Calvados), municipalities in which the canteens of all primary schools will be closed for the day. Disturbances are also announced in Montpellier (Hérault), Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône) and Rennes (Ille-et-Vilaine).
The movement followed in hospitals
The hospital civil service will also be part of the bodies mobilized during this day of strike. A notice was filed by the CGT of the AP-HP, which calls for a large demonstration at 2 p.m. this Thursday in Paris, from Bercy to Place d'Italie. Significant disruptions are also expected in Marseille: “Many caregivers should follow the movement and walk out,” anticipates the CGT section of the Timone hospital in La Provence.
Disruptions on the part of local communities
The strike should have an impact on the smooth running of certain public services during the day, in communities: town halls, departmental councils, regional councils and tax centers could be affected. Also expect difficulties with waste collection in Pau (Pyrénées-Atlantiques) for example, notes France Bleu Béarn Bigorre. Municipal police officers could finally also be mobilized in certain cities.
Many flights canceled
In aviation, disruptions are also expected. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGAC) asked airlines “to reduce their flight schedule” for Thursday by 10% at Paris-Charles de Gaulle airport between 6 and 12 p.m., by 25 % on Paris-Orly airport from 6 p.m., 50% on Marseille airport (Bouches-du-Rhône) from 6 p.m. and 20% on Toulouse airport (Haute-Garonne) for the day.
“Despite these preventive measures, disruptions and delays are nevertheless to be expected,” warns the DGAC, which invites “passengers who can to postpone their trip”.
Outside of the civil service, the CGT, CFE-CGC, CFDT and FO called on “all companies in the electricity and gas sector” to mobilize this Thursday, December 5. But this day of strike should not have too visible consequences for the public, according to a union representative from CFE-Energies, and should above all result in a loss of earnings for companies.
