This evening, La Gantoise and Union meet in the Belgian Cup. Both teams desperately need a win and qualification.
While the championship probably remains the priority for both teams, Wouter Vrancken and Sébastien Pocognoli will not want to let victory slip away in the 1/8 final of the Belgian Cup which will pit their teams against each other this Wednesday evening.
In terms of statistics, it is the Unionists who have a head start. Since their return to the elite, the residents of Parc Duden have not lost once in eight matches against the Buffalos.
Ghent’s victory against Union goes back a very, very long way: it was during a Belgian Cup match, played… in 1965.
“We don’t pay too much attention to that,” Union coach Pocognoli said in a press conference. “Statistics don’t tell the whole story. KV Mechelen is our so-called pet peeve. We went there recently to get a result for the first time in a long time.”
“Ghent may be going through a little more difficult period, but they are still in the top six. They are a team to constantly take into account,” warned Pocognoli.
