While the question of pensions could lead to the fall of Michel Barnier's government, seniors took to the streets this Tuesday, December 3, in Limoges. As in several cities in France, they responded to the call of various unions by demonstrating against the deindexation of their pensions, included in the project of the Social Security financing law. This measure, defined as “a red line” not to be crossed by Marine Le Pen, caused the submission of a motion of censure by the National Rally. The retirees intend to take advantage of the context to make themselves heard and obtain an increase based on inflation.
1300 euros for two… You still have to live!
“I have 1400 euros net, and my wife 1000 eurostestifies Jean-Yves Jousse, secretary of the Union of Retirees FO 87. Fortunately there are two of us to be able to survive! Not live, survive!“Under the windows of the prefecture, a few meters away, retired Odilen adds:”Pensions remain at 1200 euros, 1300 for two… You still have to live! There is electricity which increases every day, food…“
During the morning, onteen trade union organizations and retiree associations were received by the prefect of Haute-Vienne, François Pesneau. This courtesy interview, in a context of political and institutional crisis, was an opportunity to express dissatisfaction directly with state services.
“If, in fact, there is censorship, the government falls, and if the financing law is revised, we would return to the initial situation and pension increases would be based on inflation“, rejoices Pierre Barret, General Secretary Retired CGT 87.
The government planned an increase of 0.8% for all retirees on January 1, before a second increase of 0.8% on July 1 for retirees receiving a pension below the minimum wage. With the possible vote of a motion of censure, the indexation of pensions to inflation, directly to the tune of 2.2%, could be applied from the new year.
