Father Evenepoel responds: ‘He already sent me a message’
Evenepoel’s father has already responded in Belgian media. “We are still on our way, but we don’t know much anymore,” father Patrick Evenepoel said. ‘He was taken to the Erasmus Hospital in Anderlecht under the supervision of a MUG team. He already sent us a message, so we hope everything is okay. According to what I hear, he fell by colliding with the swinging open door of a Bpost car.’
A bystander has shared more details of Evenepoel’s fall and his condition afterwards. “It lay there on the ground for a while,” said the local butcher. ‘Remco cowered a bit afterwards, it was clearly a heavy blow. The door of the mail van was also completely twisted. His bicycle was completely broken, they folded it together like a wheelchair. When I went to take a look, he looked as pale as death and the emergency services gave him a Coke. His wife Oumi was here at about the same time as the emergency services,” the man said.
