Two South African match officials Abongile Tom and Akhona Makalima, are out of the country for the CAF Professional Course.
The duo has been representing SAFA in world football in recent times. In August last year, Makalima was part of the FIFA Women’s U20 World Cup. They were also part of the three referees who did duty at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations which was hosted by Ivory Coast.
The season didn’t start well for Tom who was criticised by South African football supporters for making costly mistakes in huge matches.
Both match officials haven’t been officiating a lot locally, and were at the 2024 COSAFA Cup, which was hosted in Eastern Cape, Gqeberha, between June and July.
Tom was in Tunisia on Tuesday for the CAF Champions League match-day one group stage clash between Esperance and Djoliba.
