With three Césars for best supporting actor, Niels Arestrup was nevertheless a leading actor. He died today at the age of 75 after a grueling battle with illness.
His steel blue eyes and Viking build made him an unforgettable artist. With more than 50 years of career, Niels Arestrup was an actor recognized by his peers. He was a must on the big and small screens as well as on the theater stage. This son of Danish immigrants began his career in the theater, somewhat by chance. He quickly understands what his best asset will be: his image as a discreet, shady and mysterious man. A label that will follow him throughout his career.
Headliner in the theater and rarely leading role in the cinema for a story of modesty perhaps: “Shyness is part of my existence since I have always been”he declared on the France Télévisions set. A shyness which did not prevent him from shining with three Caesars and a Molière.
