Valérie Bacot: a 24-year ordeal recounted in “Bring in the accused”

The program “Bring in the Accused” returns to a news item that left its mark. This evening at 9:10 p.m. on RMC Découverte, a new episode will be devoted to the story of Valérie Bacot, a woman who put an end to the suffering inflicted by her violent husband.

A broken childhood

For more than two decades, Valérie Bacot endured an ordeal. From a young age, she was the victim of incest at the hands of her brother, then sexual abuse by her stepfather. Without her mother's support, she found herself alone facing this hell.

A forced marriage

The teenager ended up marrying her tormentor, Daniel Polette, a manipulative and violent man. Despite the four children they had together, Valérie Bacot continued to suffer abuse from her husband, going so far as to be forced into prostitution.

A desperate act

After years of suffering, Valérie Bacot decided to put an end to this nightmare. In 2016, she killed her husband with a gunshot to the back of the head. Tried in 2021, she was sentenced to four years in prison, three of which were suspended.

A release amid applause

During her trial, Valérie Bacot received unprecedented support. When she was released from prison, she was greeted by a crowd of well-wishers.
