Symbol this season with Maghnes Akliouche of Monaco's triumphant youth, Eliesse Ben Seghir could have played for OM. This is what he revealed this Sunday in Téléfoot.
He could be bringing joy to the Vélodrome. But it is Monaco that benefits from its immense talent every weekend. Highly visible since the start of the season, with already five goals and three assists to his credit, Eliesse Ben Seghir is a pure product of the Monegasque team, which he joined in the summer of 2020, at the age of 15 years old, after touching his first balls at home, in the Var, then in Aix-en-Provence.
“My family had a big impact on this choice”
The rest of his career could have been written on the side of OM. “Before joining ASM, it's the club where I was closest to signing. I was very close to signing there. But when Monaco calls you, it's very hard to refuse … My family also had a big impact on this choice which I do not regret at all. I am very happy with it,” he revealed this Sunday in an interview given to Téléfoot.
Now under contract until 2027 with Monaco, where he says he is fully fulfilled, the elegant 19-year-old attacking midfielder and Moroccan international will inevitably be keen to shine this Sunday evening at the Vélodrome (8:45 p.m.), at the end of the 13th day of Ligue 1. Having missed out on the Eliesse phenomenon, Marseille on the other hand welcomed for a time its eldest, Salim, 21 years old, recruited in 2021 from Nice. Unable to establish himself in the first team, he left again this summer, heading to the Swiss D2 and Neuchâtel Xamax, where he was already on loan last season.
