FC Bayern has secured the right to buy back various talents. But in the third case too, the option will probably not be used.
Munich – In the past, FC Bayern has given up a number of young players, although according to media reports there was always an option for a later return.
Buyback clauses at FC Bayern
Joshua Zirkzee, Tanguy Nianzou and Malik Tillman were transferred by the decision-makers at Säbener Straße, with a buyback clause each being agreed.
Zirkzee was reportedly available for an amount between 20 and 25 million euros before moving from FC Bologna to Manchester United in the summer – a transfer in which FC Bayern participated financially through a share in the sale. When Nianzou moved to Sevilla FC in 2022, according to a Spanish media report, a buyback clause of 55 million euros was even set.
Will FC Bayern waive the Tillman clause?
In Tillman’s case, the buyback clause is 35 million euros, like Sky Sport reported. For an offensive player that FC Bayern regularly tries to sign, this is a relatively moderate amount.
Tillman moved to the Bayern campus from Greuther Fürth’s youth team in 2015, was loaned to Glasgow Rangers in 2022/23 and moved to PSV Eindhoven the following year. The top Dutch club paid a transfer fee of over twelve million euros after a year on loan.
In 57 competitive games for PSV, Tillman has scored 17 goals and prepared 19 more. This season alone he has scored twelve points (8 goals, 4 assists) in 19 games, and on Wednesday he scored a brace to secure the 3-2 win in the Champions League against Shakhtar Donetsk.
According to the pay broadcaster, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa have shown interest in Tillman – but not FC Bayern. Despite the buyback clause, a return to Säbener Straße does not seem to be an option and the club should refrain from doing so.
Double chance for FC Bayern at Tillman?
It should be noted that the clause reads Bild-Newspaper can only be activated in summer 2026. If FC Bayern were interested, Tillman would have to wait another year.
Reported in May Sky Sport However, there is an additional “matching right”, which means that FC Bayern von Eindhoven has to be informed about all offers. The record champions in turn have a right of first refusal if the same amount is offered. This would open up a transfer opportunity in the summer of 2025.
However, as things stand, this scenario seems just as unlikely as activating the buyback clause. Instead, Tillman could join another club if he makes use of his suspected release clause of between 30 and 40 million euros.
