Julia Layani, a Jewish podcaster and LGBT activist, was excluded from the jury of the “Chéries-Chéris” festival, accused of “anti-Semitism” and being a “far-right Zionist”. At the microphone of Pascale de la Tour du Pin in Europe 1 Soir, she defends herself from her accusations and claims to have suffered this because of a single person.
It was an event that caused a reaction on social networks. Julia Layani, a Jewish podcaster, claims, in an Instagram post viewed more than a million times, to have been a victim of anti-Semitism during the LGBTQIA+ short film festival “Chéries-Chéris” in which she participated as a member of the jury. Invited to the microphone of Pascale de la Tour du Pin in Europe 1 Soir weekend, she says that 12 people wanted to exclude her from the festival by means of a platform, because she would be a “far-right Zionist”. An exclusion which would be due to one person only.
“For me, there are 11 people who were exploited and manipulated”
“What happened was a person, who I don’t even want to mention, who led the others in. It was a group of 12 people who signed this column, four members of the jury and candidates from the festival and who tried to get me to sign this petition to exclude me, there are 11 people who were exploited and manipulated, but I would like to know who pushed him to do this? is the ideology that pushes her to to have this hatred? Knowing that I don't know this person and once again, I want to make it clear that the festival protected me until the last moment.
During the closing ceremony of the festival, Julia Layani said that a platform for peace was to be delivered on the crimes in Gaza or Lebanon: “I agreed to talk about peace, if it was possible to mention the Israeli hostages still held captive by Hamas. I was refused and I was not able to go on stage with them, because my statement was not validated by the group. I am neither right-wing nor. left. Today there are a handful of disruptive individuals who advocate an ideology of censorship. That's what they tried to do, but they failed because I didn't let it happen.
