This weekend is marked by the 38th edition of the Telethon, the opportunity for its president, Laurence Tiennot-Herment, to remind Europe 1 of the association's mission. And if lives have already been saved thanks to donations from the French, there is still a long way to go.
The Telethon returns with its 38th edition. Since Friday, the charitable operation has allowed anyone who wishes to advance research. And in the face of illness, there are no small donations, as Laurence Tiennot-Herment, the president of the Telethon, reminds us on Europe 1. “The Telethon fight is the fight against 7,000 rare diseases. Thanks, we can say, to the loyalty and commitment of donors.”
“We save lives thanks to treatments that were born in the Telethon laboratories”
“Today, we are saving lives thanks to treatments that were born in the Telethon laboratories,” she explains. But there is still a long way to go, “That only concerns 5% of rare diseases, there are still 95% waiting.” And that's why “we need the mobilization and donations of as many French people as possible.”
Last year, nearly 93 million euros were collected, according to the association's final results. 38.6 million euros were allocated to help patients and their families, and 58.2 million to the Healing mission to support and support research.
