It's an interesting exhibition which is on until December 6 at the Montcuq town hall. After taking portraits of the people “at work” in Montcuq in 2012 and bringing them together in an album, photographer Mark Newman, who has lived in the village for thirty years, wanted to make a new freeze frame, “a snapshot in the time”, of all the village's assets. “Indeed, in twelve years the appearance of Montcuq is no longer the same, notes Mark Newman, and I was asked to produce a new album. Closed businesses have reopened, new brands have appeared and many artists and creators have settled in. The village has developed considerably and is showing dynamism and vitality.
More than 90 paintings produced with the montage of several photos pay homage to “Montcuq at your service”. It was Mo, Mark's wife, also a photographer, who created these compositions of her husband's photos. We see the artisans, traders, and all the players in the economic and social fabric of the city in portrait, in their workplace and taken live in their professional activities. The municipal council is in a good place, as are the schools, the liberal professions, the crèche, the nursing home, but also the galleries, the medico-social structures, the church, the pharmacy, the police and the firefighters… In short , everyone !
“It took me a year to produce this report,” smiles Mark Newman, “and a lot of patience. But I was well received everywhere. People wanted to appear on the album!” For Mo Newman, their approach is a form of gratitude to a village which warmly welcomed them thirty years ago. In front of this friendly gallery of portraits, we quickly guess that the charm and attraction that Montcuq has on visitors is above all the welcome of the people who work and live there.
